Jenny Smit was born in 1978 in Heerlen, the Netherlands. At the age of 18 she moved to Utrecht to study Biomedical Sciences, which she completed in 2001. That was also the year of her very first big trip: living on the Indonesian island Batam to do a rotation in a local hospital. A new passion had been born, and many trips followed.
In 2004 the time had come to learn more about (im)possibilities of photography, and some courses were followed at Parnassos, Utrecht. The compact camera got replaced by the first SLR. After finishing a PhD., Jenny took a year off to travel and volunteer in Asia. Photos were taken as souvenirs, and Jenny developed a special love for photographing people - especially in non-posed settings in their "natural habitats". In addition to that, she got an eye for details and repetitive elements, which are perfect subjects for macro and close-up photography.
From 2008, Jenny takes also photos from the underwater world.
